As someone who has experience teaching different types of students, my methodology would be to stay flexible and work in a way that maximizes the student's learning experience. For example, I would include more charts and graphs, as well as photos for a visual learner whereas for a auditory learner, it would be more of a lecture-based class.

When tutoring, I want to not only just teach the student and help them grow in education, but form a bond as a friend. I believe that learning should be enjoyable rather than monotonous. I believe that teaching by play can be very effective amongst lower age groups, such as picking up vocabulary whilst playing with puzzles, or actively speaking Mandarin to them while conducting an activity.  In older age groups, I also believe in flexibility and understanding the student's needs. Everyone has a different way of understanding material, and I want to acknowledge that, whether it be through changing the method of explaining, or using a different medium such as visual guides to help learning.

My teaching philosophy centers on making complex concepts accessible and engaging for students. I am committed to explaining ideas in ways that resonate with each individual, and adapt my teaching style to accommodate diverse learning preferences. Above all, I aim to instill my own passion for learning in my students, inspiring them to embrace curiosity and discovery as lifelong pursuits.

Recognizing the unique learning styles and needs of each student, I strongly believe in taking an individualized approach to tutoring. This philosophy not only ensures that students grasp the conceptual knowledge necessary to succeed in the classroom, but also fosters the analytical and test taking skills that will ensure success on their final proctored exams.  

My personal philosophy towards tutoring is built on two pillars: a results-oriented approach and building connections to the real-world. More so than a conventional school teacher, the role of a tutor is to create a student's 'path-to-victory' — understanding the student's road to success on tests/exams, identifying obstacles along that route, and solving them. In that sense, I believe in starting exam preparation earlier rather than later (as the skills this training builds are useful across the course). I understand that not every student needs to master every subject and embrace this reality by focusing on results more than a typical educational system.

When I do introduce a content or strategies that extend beyond the scope of an exam, it's done because I either believe that this student wants to excel in the subject long-term, or to introduce illustrations of concepts that will help students better their understanding. The way in which I excelled in Economics, Politics and many of my other courses involved learning outside of the classroom (through activities like debating, Model UN, and my own experiences as a tutor).

My philosophy in teaching is to ensure that my students gain an intuitive understanding. Rather than route memorization, I believe that the most effective way to learn is through reason and logic. Whether the student is studying a quantitative subject or working on qualitative work, they should understand the reasons behind why something is right or wrong. Therefore, while I tailor my teaching to individual learning styles, my underlying philosophy in learning remains constant.

In general, my aim is to make learning both interesting and rigorous for students so they can simultaneously achieve the results they want while also developing a curiosity for the subject. I enjoy getting to know my students as individuals and learners so I can support them to the best of my ability by tailoring my teaching approach to their unique needs. In a typical session, I will try to address any gaps in their current knowledge of the course material using both school-provided and private resources, before returning to reinforce those concepts at a later session.

My tutoring approach is deeply influenced by my broad academic interests that span across both STEM subjects and the humanities, enriched further by my extensive experience in international debate competitions during my high school years. This diverse background allows me to offer a holistic educational experience to my students, emphasizing the interconnectedness of knowledge and the importance of well-rounded intellectual development.

I like to make lessons interactive by involving students and giving them opportunities to practically apply knowledge instead of just lecturing them on content. During lessons, I also like to show students little tips and tricks to help them study and learn more effectively in class

Learning and receiving an education is no easy feat. There are certainly challenges when it comes to both the teaching we receive, as well as our interpretation and retention of the material we are taught. That is primarily why my tutoring approach revolves around flexibility—adapting to individual styles and needs for learning, and changing my teaching rather than a student's preferred learning methods. In this way, I can build confidence in my students whilst simultaneously teaching them more efficient ways to absorb and genuinely understand the information they are asked to learn. I often ask for learning materials beforehand to truly familiarize myself with the subject before going into teaching, and plan multiple methods of explanation and practice to ensure a holistic learning experience. A typical session for a subject such as math or science begins with a revision of old test papers or homework from the week that gave the student trouble, followed by an explanation of key concepts and strategies for improvement. Lastly, the remainder of the session would be filled with time to practice and apply the skills and content the student has just been taught or introduced to.

My main goal is to encourage students to be passionate about what they’re learning. I do this by creating lesson plans filled with fun reading and activities, and tailoring the lesson to the students unique interests. My teaching style is interactive. I often engage students in thoughtful conversation to help them develop their ideas or understanding. When tutoring English, I help students develop a solid foundation of knowledge. I often work with students to review parts of speech and types of sentences. With older students, I help them improve the cohesion and clarity of their writing.

I feel it is important to discuss what teaching approach is most suitable for each client, and then tailor my tutoring sessions specifically to their requirements and preferences, whether it be walking them through exam question approaches. or information presentations and explicit teaching of concepts and content. I also incorporate interactive activities to engage, clarify, and cement their understanding. I am passionate about the subject and this passion is reflected in my enthusiastic approach to each tutoring session.

Throughout my academic journey, I've encountered my fair share of ineffective tutors who failed to teach me effectively. I've also had tutors who, although knowledgeable, made me develop a dislike for the subjects I was learning. Now, as I step into the role of a tutor myself, my goal is to not only provide effective teaching but also serve as a positive mentor for my students.To achieve this, I recognize the importance of adapting to each student's unique needs and learning style, rather than imposing a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. By tailoring my teaching methods to the individual, I hope to create a sense of serenity and foster a genuine love for learning in my students. Building a strong mentor-student bond is equally important to me.However, while I strive to adapt and create a positive learning experience, I understand that there may be instances where a student's mindset clashes with our shared goal of learning. In such cases, I will maintain a firm approach while keeping their best interests in mind.Drawing on my avid interest in psychology and the knowledge I have gained, I will employ various strategies that not only help students reach their academic potential but also support their personal growth. Each session will typically begin with addressing any questions about the material and discussing any assigned homework. From there, I will proceed with the lesson plan prepared prior to the session.By combining my passion, knowledge, and adaptable teaching approach, I aim to empower students to not only excel academically but also unlock their full potential as individuals.

I am open to all teaching styles that suit the student, whether that be traditional instruction, using visuals, incorporating play and activities, and online.

I try to be more flexible with the way I tutor, as I believe that in many cases the student knows how and what they want to learn. Typically, my lessons start with schoolwork review, as I think it sets the groundwork and allows me to run parallel with the material at school. Then, I try to teach new, and more fun content, whether it be a very niche historical topic or ways to argue better. Of course, I always try to customize and improve every lesson, and am always open to trying new methods to help and support students.
